In this workshop you will create a range of baubles using a variety of techniques to make a necklace.  The techniques include embroidery, gold embroidery work using a variety of products, fabric, beads, felt, sadi threads and more.   We use traditional products in a non traditional manner. You should almost finish the necklace many students do.   A good fun class & five great colours to choose from.  These baubles can be expanded upon and used for many uses not just jewellery. All skill levels welcome.

Le Jardin Collection - We will explore how a wide range of different fabrics & stitching respond to the wet felting process. Incredible texture will be achieved in this montage of fibres and fabrics. The hand felted panels will be pieced as panels into the main bag structure. The structure of the bag is achieved by stiffening fabric & commercially made felt to create a strong and versatile bag. The assembly is straight forward and does require machine stitching.

Approximate size not including handles: 33cm high & 42cm wide.

ART NOUVEAU SEWING BASKET

4 day workshop at Koala Conventions with Robyn Alexander

Skill level: Advanced sewing skills and some embroidery experience.

In this 4 day workshop we will make this ‘Art Nouveau’ inspired needlework basket.  It is made of rich hand dyed silk/rayon velvet and damask silk.  The basket is very practical and should serve you for many years and hopefully become a treasured heirloom.  We will embroider with both ribbon & thread, appliqué lace, make cords, couch gimp & gold work threads and bead.  You will learn a range of different techniques to construct and assemble the basket.  This is a big project and suited to an experienced sewer.

Kit cost: $250.

ILLUMINATED FRAGMENTS - 2 day workshop - with Robyn Alexander at Jumpers & Jazz.

Date:Weds 24th & Thurs 25th July 2013

In this two day workshop we will learn to transfer the text using turps and burnishing onto the hand dyed dupion silk then paint laces & braids to make them look antique & to create texture. Shot metallic & silk fabrics are used for the corners & behind the lace.  These layers of fabrics add subtle colour to the back ground.  Our shimmer tape is used for the letter ‘L’ being stuffed and ruched creating dimension & outlined with gold work sadi thread. We couch the hand dyed gimp for the stems and add the free motion machine embroidered leaves.  The hand ribbon and traditional embroidery creates the seed ball below the flower petals & the calyx.  Of course we will finish with beading and the gorgeous little sequins bringing sparks of light to the project. A new approach to creating ancient illuminated inspired manuscripts.  It is all about making it look antique & worn.  Instructions will be provided for final framing. Available one colour only.

This is the time to let the little girl out to play, wonder and allow your imagination to run wild as you create a magical secret garden.  We will explore a range of techniques to create texture and colour.  Starting with hand needle felting to create the grassy mossy background.  We will paint & play with tyvek paper to make rocks & lace fabric to create different surfaces & form.  Appliqué beautiful hand dyed laces and embroider a delightful garden using many different threads, ribbons and a few surprises.  Dabble with some simple machine embroidery and of course finish with beading.  Approximate size of panel 25 x 30 cm.

THE GUILDED NEEDLECASE - 2 day workshop

This Victoriana rich needle case is well worn and well loved as I have been using it for over 10 years now. It is very practical in it's layout and very beautiful in its' old worldliness. This project is perfect for learning foundational ribbon embroidery using three widths of silk ribbon and stitching with a variety of silk threads, couching, beading and cord makding. As this was made so long ago some of the products are no longer available such as the braid meandering across the centre of the embroidered panel, the braid framing the panel and the damask outer fabric. Rest assured I will source some beautiful replacements. We will us my hand dyed velvet as the outer fabric. To colours will be available in the velvet. Plum or Arabian Nights.
